PQI’s 256GB SSD SATA Drive

PQI has announced its 256GB SSD based on a 2.5” form factor using a SATA interface. The SSD is said to transfer date at a mere 60 mb/s, but hopefully the lower seek times and power requirements will make up for that.

iPhone to get 3rd party Applications

Steve Jobs mentioned yesterday in an interview with Walt Mossberg, that the iPhone may in the future have the ability to run 3rd party applications.

This seems like a smart move by Apple, because if they limit the functionality and compatibility of the iPhone, to run 3rd party applications, it could end up being as user friendly as the Apple TV

Apple TV gets YouTube and a new hard drive

Apple today announced that it’s bringing the Internet’s most popular originally-created content from YouTube to the living room with Apple TV. The new service will start in the middle of June.

Apple TV will wirelessly stream videos directly from YouTube and play them your TV.

Apple has announced that their Apple TV will be available with a TV build-to-order option with a 160GB hard drive.

The new larger hard drive offers four times the storage of the existing Apple TV for up to 200 hours of video, 36,000 songs, 25,000 photos or a combination of each.

Palm’s new Foleo mobile companion

Palm has today announced the launch of the Palm Foleo, a mobile companion.

The Foleo is a scaled down laptop, with a web browser, email, and you can also view attachements in a variety of formats including, PDF’s, Word and Exel.

It has a 10-inch screen and a full size keyboard, it connects wirelessly to your smartphone, to retrieve email and surf the web.

The Foleo will cost $499 (with a $100 rebate) in the US, not details are realesed yet on European pricing.

Microsoft’s Coffee Table PC

Microsoft has released details of its new touch screen table PC.

The Coffee table PC is designed be be used without a mouse or keyboard and features a touch sensitive screen for navigation.

Microsoft intends to sell the unit to corporate customer initially, including hotels, restaurants and casinos.

The Coffee Table PC is also designed to interact with mobile phones when they are placed on the touch sensitive screen.

Samsung’s YP-U3 MP3 Player available to reserve now

The YP-U3 MP3 player is available to reserve in Japan at Samsung’s online shop. It is expected that the player will be launched in the US and Europe over the next couple of weeks.

It is available in five colours, green, blue, pink, white and black, with the choice of a 1GB, 2GB or 5GB player. With a USB port and an OLED display, could this be the MP3 player to rival the iPod Shuffle.

As yet there is no idea on the pricing of the player, but it is expected the 1GB version will retail for about the same the iPod Shuffle

Is it a Mouse or a Phone?

Sony’s new VN-CX1A telephone mouse is now available in Japan for around £35.

The optical mouse doubles as a Skype Phone, with the ability to be a speaker phone as well. The mouse/phone is designed to compliment Sony’s VAIO range of PC’s.

Seems like a pretty cool gadget, Just one thing though, if you are talking on Skype, and want to use your PC at the same time ? do you have to plug in another mouse ?

Toshiba announces the Gigabeat V801 and V401

Toshiba’s new Gigabeat players feature a 4 inch QVGA colour screen, the V801 has a 80GB hard drive and the V401 has a 40GB hard drive.

The player incorporates new H2C technology, which is reported to improve the sound.It supports WMA, MP3 and WAV audio formats and WNV video formats. It will be released on the 1st of June in Japan.

Sony’s TV on your T-Shirt

Sony has developed a razor thin display, which bends and shows full colour video.

The 2.5 inch screen is just 0.3 millimetre’s thick , the 160×120 pixel, with 16.7 million colours is the world highest definition for this type of display achieved to date.

Sony has said that applications for the device could even be on clothing, or as wallpaper.

Don’t expect to see it in the shops anytime soon.

Sony’s DAV-IS10 Micro Home Theatre System

Sony has announced its new DAV-IS10 home theatre system, with five tiny satellite speakers that fit in the palm of your hand; it also includes a CD/DVD player/receiver and a sub-woofer.gadgets, technology

The DAV-IS10 is powered from a digital amplifier in the sub-woofer. It has a HDMI output, and the DVD player is capable of upscaling standard definition DVD’s to either 720p or 1080i.

The unit also has Sony’s Digital Media Port, which accepts various optional accessories, including a PC WiFi unit for streaming digital music over you network. There is also an optional Blue-tooth receiver and various audio docking stations for a variety of MP3 players.

The World’s thinnest laptop?

Intel’s new Mobile Metro Notebook, is just 0.7 inches thick, and weighs just 2.25lbs.

The laptop is a joint venture with Ziba Design, and is expected to have a battery life of 14 hours, that’s pretty impressive for such a slim design.

There is the possibility it will feature dual displays and always-on Internet connectivity via wireless. It is expected that Intel will announce when this gorgeous laptop is going into the production by the end of the year.

Apple reduces UK iPod prices

Apple have reduced prices on their popular iPod range in the UK.

The new prices will be £49 for the iPod Shuffle, £179 for the 30GB iPod Video, and £239 for the 80GB iPod Video. The iPod nano remain unchanged at £99 for the entry level 2GB version

Steam’s Online Platform hits 13 Million users

With over 150 PC games available for download including the popular ‘Counterstrike’, Steam have signed up over 13 million users, that’s a lot of gamers.

Also with the release of future games on the platform including the much anticipated ‘Team Fortress 2′, this is bound to increase steadiliy, making them one of the largest online gaming platforms available today.
