Google has announced the launch of its new software, ‘Google Gears‘.

Google Gears is designed to allow users to access online services like e-mail, news readers and online calendars when they are offline.

This will enable users to use their computer in places where there is no internet connection.

Google have revealed that they intend Google Gears to be an open source project, and they are working with the likes of Adobe and Moxilla, to create a single standard technology which will work across all the major platforms.

According to Google, this new technology ‘builds on the Web’s existing programming model by introducing new JavaScript APIs for sophisticated data storage, application caching, and multi-threading features,”

I think this is going to be a great application, enabling you to view information offline that your browser has stored, when you were last online.
