TomTom’s Camera Based Sat Nav

Details have been released of TomTom’s new Camera based GPS Satellite Navigation System.
According to a new European Patent, the system will relay inforation from a camera at the front of the car to the GPS units screen.
Then a smart image system will be able to recognize the roads and junctions ahead, and the superimpose directions on top of the video, to help the driver turn in the right direction, based on recognizable landmarks rather than current graphical based 3D maps.
The new unit would still have additional onscreen features for for distance and current speed.
If TomTom can get this right, they could finally solve a lot of the problems that people get with current GPS based Sat Nav systems available today.
