Apple sells 2 million copies of Leopard in the first weekend

October 31, 2007 at 8:29 am

Apple has sold over 2 million copies of its new Mac OS X Leopard in First Weekend.

mac os x leopard

This beats previous first weekend sales of Mac OS X Tiger, which was previously the most successful OS release in Apple’s history.

The sales included copies sold at Apple’s retail stores, Apple Authorized Resellers, the online Apple Store, under maintenance agreements and bundled with new Mac’s.

Leopard is the sixth major release of Mac OS X and is packed with more than 300 new features.

“Early indications are that Leopard will be a huge hit with customers,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Leopard’s innovative features are getting great reviews and making more people than ever think about switching to the Mac.”

Looks like Apple have another hit on their hands, they just seem to go from strength to strength, and there is one reason why, they keep innovating and improving their product line, be it the iPod, the iPhone, their MAc computer range, and they manage to create a massive buzz around any new product they launch.

Apple makes $831 for every Activated iPhone

October 30, 2007 at 12:31 pm

Since the launch of the iPhone in the US, there has been a lot of speculation about how much Apple makes for each iPhone that is activated.

iphone uk

According to Mobile Magazine, Apple is making a whopping $831 (about £415) for every activation, which includes the $399 purchase price and Apple also gets a monthly kickback of $18 for every iPhone on the AT&T network.

So over two years thats a pretty decent amount of revenue for a mobile phone, and I suspect that Apple have a similar revenue share in place with O2 for when the iPhone launches over here next month.

Why Facebook is worth $15 Billion

October 30, 2007 at 8:33 am

why facebook is worth $15 Billion

Microsoft’s recent investment of $240 M (£117m) in the popular social networking site Facebook, in exchange for a 1.6% share of the company has put a value on Facebook of $15 billion (£7.3bn).

It may seem like a lot, but when you take into account that Facebook adds 200,000 new users every day it may not be far off the mark.

Microsoft seems to think so, and so did Google who got into a bidding war with Microsoft to invest in Facebook, and according to some analysts it was not just business, this was personal.

I am glad to see that Microsoft got to invest in Facebook and not Google (don’t get me wrong I am no Microsoft fanboy), but the more I hear about what Google, and what they are up to the more I dislike them.

The BBC has a great article on why Facebook is worth $15 billion, called ‘15 reasons Facebook may be worth $15bn’, check it out for the full details.
