3 Mobile launches the 3 Skype Phone in the UK - Free Skype Calls

3 Mobile have launched an amazing new mobile in the UK, the 3 Skype Phone.

The good news is that all Skype VoIP calls are free to any other Skype user, as long as you have a current contract with Three then all the Skype calls are completly free, could this change the way we use mobile phones?

You have a choice of either a Pay as you Go contract, the phone costs £49 (about $100)to buy on pay as you go, or is free is you opt for one of Three’s competitive contracts.

All you need to do to get free Skype calls on the pay as you go contract is top it up by £10 (about $20) a month.

The phone is pretty cool, it features a 2 mega pixel camera and has a microSD card slot, I haven’t had a good chance to use it properly yet, but I will post a full review of it soon.

The Skype Phone will be available in the UK from Friday.

    Jeeez, that’s an ugly phone…

    Probably even uglier considering they don’t show you any screen shots of the display.

    Pretty good start for skype. I use skype now but just for me pc. I have virgin for my prepaid.

    It’s not a bad phone actually.The skype function is pretty cool, I will be writing a more in depth review of it later in the week once I have had the chance to test it out some more, and will post some decent pictures of it in action.

    That’s great for the way we talk on the phone! But I agree, it’s a pretty sad looking phone. Still, if it was in America, it would be great, I’d think about getting one.

    I’ve been using one, having got it at the press launch and for a £50/$100 phone it is pretty cool. No other 3G phone comes close with that functionality for that price.

    It’s not an iPhone or an N95, but then it’s not supposed to be. I really like that 3 have concentrated on the functionality. It is ridiculously simple to use Skype. But the phone is a good looking thing as well, the pictures don’t do it justice. I was pretty cynical before getting one, but it really is a groundbreaking product because it’s designed for everyone - real mass market acceptance.

    Yeah I agree, its a great little phone, the Skype feature is pretty amazing.

    I will get some decent photos of it up, when I publish the full review.

    Great little phones, these make for a real shift in the way that we pay for calls on a mobile. Well done 3.
