Court orders T-Mobile Germany to sell a contract free iPhone
A German court has ordered T-Mobile Germany to sell the newly released European iPhone free from the current two year contract.

This could be a big problem fro T-Mobile Germany, as they have obviously signed an exclusive revenue deal with Apple, and probably shelled out a fair amount of dosh upfront as well.
The German court has issued a temporary injunction against iPhone sales, which means no iPhones can be sold in Germany. The injunction is a result of a complaint received from Vodafone, who have used the excuse that they wanted to keep Germany’s mobile phone market free from locked handsets.
I totally agree that mobiles should not be locked and people should not be made to sign long contracts to get the mobile of their choice, but I wonder if Vodafone would have filed this motion if they had won the exclusive for the iPhone in Germany, I very much doubt it.
It will be interesting to see how this pans out, as the outcome of this could have a serious knock on effect in other European countries.
