A Paper Plane will be flying back to earth from the International Space Station

January 21, 2008

This think this story is fantastic if it is real.. The University of Tokyo & the folded paper plane society are planning to fly a special paper plane model back to earth from the International Space Station. The 30-40cm, 30 gram plane is constructed from paper that can withstand a mach 7 high velocity stream for 10 seconds. A test plane one fifth of the size withstood temperature of 300 degrees without burning up.

The group plan to launch the plane from International Space Station by throwing it and as it travels the  400kms back to earth the paper plane will  reach speeds up to mach 20. Only after entering the earth’s atmosphere at an altitude of 80kms will it slow to a paltry mach 7.  Has April Fool arrived a few months early?
