Check out this wacky holder for your iPod which hangs around your neck and puts your iPod behind your neck. Not sure how easy this would be to control, but anything is worth a go once.

Is it me, or does it look real tempting to snatch it from behind the user and still have time to run away while he/she realizes and turns around?
Very unsafe. But maybe it can be hidden with a hood or folded-up collar.
