February 29, 2008 at 2:00 pm

Think your speedy on a keyboard? Check out this typing speedometer. In addition to tracking your typing speed (in words-per-minute) the gauge also keeps a running total of how many words you’ve typed so far today. Just plug the speedometer into your USB port, install the included software, and you’re off to the races. The gauge tops out at a whopping 260 WPM, which is speedier than the even world’s fastest typist’s record 212 WPM (and that was on a Dvorak keyboard!)

SONY New Personal Field Headset

February 28, 2008 at 3:00 pm

SONY has created strange looking set of headphones called the PFVR-V1. Described by Sony as a “marriage between headphones and speakers.” Two 1-inch die-cast aluminum speakers connected by a lightweight metal headband position the speakers about a half inch from the outer ear and direct the front of the speakers toward the ear canal.

SONY New Personal Field Speakers

Sony says this design, which delivers audio from multiple directions, provides “mid- and high-range audio frequencies in a field of sound aimed toward the outer ear, while the bass frequency sound is delivered directly to the ear canal via the extended bass reflex ducts.” Sounds interesting if it indeeds does as the advertising reads.

Gas Cooled PC Systems

February 28, 2008 at 1:49 pm

Rather than using fans or liquid to cool your PC gas maybe the next option. Xyber Technologies new MK Series of PCs uses aluminum tubing filled with inert gas that evaporates when heated and flows to the cooler end of the tube, where it condenses and returns to repeat the cycle. The design boasts 19% greater cooling efficiency, and 80% less energy consumption – while other computers of the same calibre require 1000 Watts, the MK Series operates on a custom 110 Watt supply. It uses fewer moving parts, reducing the need for maintenance, and can be stored in cabinets or drawers, due to the minimal ventilation requirements. Most importantly, the stable, efficient cooling system allows processors to reach their highest potential – operating at greater power, and at higher speeds.

Cool Gadgets - High Resolution Video Goggles

high res video goggles

Everybody wants one: the biggest screen they can get, smack dab in front of their faces. Just imagine 62 virtual inches of bright and shiny TV glory floating 9 feet before your peepers. It’s a bit of television nirvana - that’s what it is. Head-mounted heaven.

Most video goggles only display 320 x 240 resolution video, which is fine for the most basic of video sources, but these bad boys pump out 4 times the number of pixels. That’s right - you heard me! Plug in your favorite video source, be it video game console, iPod - whatever, as long as it supports NTSC out, sit back, and bombard your rods and cones with photons in the 400 to 700 nanometer range (that’s the visible light spectrum, for those science-challenged).

The included battery pack lets your goggles go portable - wear them on the subway, or on the treadmill, or catch up on the last season of Battlestar in bed while your significant other snoozes blissfully unaware. Sure, you might get looks while wearing them in public, but you know what? They’re jealous - that’s right! They want what you’ve got, and are coveting. Let ‘em. They can get their own.

The high resolution video goggles are available to buy online for $349.99 from ThinkGeek.com
