PostHeaderIcon Flexible ‘USBee’ Flash Memory Drive wins first prize

Personally I’ve gone through my fair share of flash drives which have been accidentally twisted in the wrong direction, knocked or jammed into the USB port. The ‘USBee’ is designed to reduce this by add flexibility to the desvice. Designed by Serbian designer Damjan Stankovic the “USBee” won first prize at the MS Industrial USB Competition held by the Serbian Design Community forum DizajnZonaâ„¢. Ergonomically designed to bend at life’s will in any direction, this USB Flash Drive features a vented housing for cooling and a detachable protective cap that snaps onto the back end of the device when not in use.

No word yet if this will go into production.

    great design and idea.

Having just snapped off my 1 gig thumb drive at the head, and just barely being able to bend it back to a usable angle, I’d buy ALL of mine in a flexible design like this.
KUDOS.. and I hope these go into production

  • It’s pretty cool. I’d never heard of someone busting their usb drive… but i guess if it gets kicked or bumped wrong… like when you’re in an uber hurry and have to have it extracted STAT!

  • the stick looks cool, but the flexible neck makes the whole thing really big, plus bending cables are generally not a good idea.

If you look at the cross section and imagine the memory stick with only the necessary circuit board and the usb connector, the thing would be half the size, therefore not needing the extra flexibility. This would also reduce production costs, and increase material choises, since flexibility wouldn’t be a requirement anymore. The slim neck is a good design feature tho, since more and more computers jam their usb ports so close to each other, that different usb devices fight with each other for the space.

    just my 2 cents.
