EFiX USB Device Converts a PC into a Mac
Ever fancied converting a PC to a Mac? Well with the Efix USB device you can. This internal USB dongle by EFiX, once installed on the motherboard of your PC allows you to install the Mac Leopard OS X onto your PC from a standard retail DVD.
This USB device comes in two versions:
- Version 1 is the hand-made version that supports a few more mobos. Since it’s hand-made, there are 200 units of this version have been produced and they carry price tag of $125.
- Version 2 will be a mass-produced version, which is expected to be shipped a month later, and should cost cheaper than the version 1
The EFiX USB dongle is to be installed internally, which you need a vacant USB header on your motherboard. The device now has a limited number of hardware compatibility. Hardware such as nVidia is almost all supported, but for mobos, you can only find the Gigabyte in the list. The more detailed of the hardware compatibility list is here.
So far, the maker, EFiX has made deal with distributors in Taiwan and Bulgaria only, meaning it’ll only surface in the market of the two mentioned countries.

I don’t get it! How will it happen?
@Sarah: I’m going to guess that it works like Linux on a thumb drive. A special version is put that can be run entirely from the removable disk. To use it, you tell your motherboard to start from USB, so it then loads the disk. The only difference is this on is OS X.
@Jake: I dont think that is how it works, it will fool the OSX installation into thinking that your hardware is mac so it will install natively on your hard drive.
