Foldup Guitar by Luke Klinkenberg

July 30, 2008

Designed by Luke Klinkenberg the Electric Nomad is a standard sized electric guitar that features all the usual features, usability and playability of a normal electric guitar; however, it is designed to collapse in on itself to create an easy to carry size.

The whole process takes about 7 seconds to complete when either extending or retracting the neck and the guitar is ready for play or transport.

First the lever is lifted to remove the neck from the locked position and release the string tension. The lever makes it much easier to release the 47kg of tension on the strings.

The neck then tilts upward. This stage utilises the neck as leverage to tension the strings back into tune when the guitar is being extended for play.

The rod that locks the head hinge is automatically released so that it can now be folded.

Finally the neck slides into the guitar body. As the neck retracts, the strings are automatically wound up. At no point during the process does the neck have to be separated from the body or the strings loosened or removed.

When collapsed it measures 21 x 15 x 4 inches.

Could be quite an innovative idea, specially if you travel a lot and space is at a premium.
Could not find one like that in the UK, but there are some really great guitars featured on this site.
