PostHeaderIcon Cool Concepts – The Hanging Hard Drive Enclosure

Here’s a cool concept from designer Sangho Jin, The Hanging Hard Drives.

The hanging hard drive enclosure lets you hang a 2.5 inch hard drive of the back of your laptops LCD screen.

This concept frees up your desk space, giving you a neat way to add extra hard drive space to your laptop, a simple but clever idea.

Not a good idea. Unless you open your monitor at a 90 degree angle… wich I don’t. If you open it like me i guess it will pull it wide open and eventually will loosen the hinges.

You do realise hard drives are meant to be either flat or on their side, anything else is bad for them. So as lalo has said are you going to keep your screen at a 90 degree angle, me thinks not.

LOVE the concept – great job thinking about portability, definitely going to blog about this at some point.

JAB_au, you are actually wrong, drives can be run at angles, its the vibrations or shocks that aren’t good.

I work for a data storage company that services and supports hardware used in large storage area networks used by large fortune 500 companies, the servers we use actually have the drives installed at a 90degree angle (Perpendicular to the floor)

I was thinking it might be a better idea to lay it flat beside the laptop then all clunky on top. Maybe you could hang it from an i.v. drip bottle and pair it up with a wireless antenna and a cool bumper sticker too.

Hey Big Al can you pick up a pizza and bring it over to Ma’s tonight. Thanks dude

Excellent points. However there’s one thing you’re forgetting… the people who know those facts probably already have an alternate solution set up (I use home network, with a spare hardrive in my desktop).

Basically what I’m saying is… people are retarded… this product would succeed because people just wouldn’t think about these things before buying it.

  • Elijah says:

Umm… just me or wouldn’t the vibrations of the harddrive shake the screen like crazy? Also I doubt its good for the hard drive to be standing vertically like that

Now, my mamma never said I was the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree…

But couldn’t you use this concept with say…I don’t know..a solid state drive, which is becoming more and more popular?

    Duh.

  • Sam says:

Took care of this a few months ago with liberal application of velcro. Works like a charm.

  • looks nice, but very rarely have mr powerbook upright

  • slushe says:

terrible! so now you can’t close the lid on your laptop? this would only be useful if you never took your laptop on your desk…………..but if it’s on a desk you’ll have plenty of room for a hd.

    Try again!

  • Ryan G says:

That is just so cool. I want one now!

  • Jim Smith, João Pessoa, Brazil says:

Hard drives are already obsolete. Thumb drives of 128 BG are available. Why would I have a hard drive when I can carry ten thumb drives in the same space that are more reliable, tougher, and cheaper, too?
