Xbox 360 getting original Xbox games in December
The Xbox 360 has a big software update coming in December, and the most interesting feature of this update is original Xbox games.

You will be able to download games like Halo and Fable direct to your Xbox 360, and they will cost about 1,200 Microsoft points, which is about $15 (about £7.50).I suspect this will boost Xbox 360 sales and also Microsoft will probably sell a lot of these download games over the Christmas period.

Halo 3 first day sales hit $170 Million
Reuters are reporting that Halo 3’s first day sales have hit a whopping $170 million (about £84.3 million), which gives Microsoft’s entertainment division which has been loosing money a serious boost.

Halo 3 gamers surged onto Mircrosft’s Xbox live service with the release, with over a million members playing Halo 3 in the first 20 hours after release.
“It’s a good number,” said Andy Miedler, technology analyst at Edward Jones. “This certainly goes a long way toward bringing Microsoft’s entertainment division toward that full-year profitability, which we think is important for investors,” he added. Microsoft aims for a profit for the division in the current fiscal year.
The game is also key to Microsoft’s quest to widen its lead over rival Sony Corp in the battle for industry dominance of the current generation of game machines.
The game, in which players try to save humanity from an army of aliens, has had great reviews so far for its lush settings, cinematic story and breadth of features.
The first two “Halo” games have sold a combined 15 million copies and cemented Microsoft as a serious player in a video game industry that was dominated by Sony’s PlayStation 2.

UK Xbox 360 Prices Get Cut - Elite Coming Friday
Microsoft has reduced the price on its Xbox 360 consoles.

The Xbox 360 Premium will now sell for £249.99 down by £30 and the Core console will now sell for £179.99 down by £20.
The move comes ahead of the launch of the Xbox 360 Elite which is available in the UK from Friday for £299.
I just can’t see how Sony and their PS3 can compete with these prices, you can buy an Xbox 360 Elite plus the add on HD DVD drive for less than the basic PS3.

Xbox 360 premium Gets HDMI
Microsoft have announced that their Xbox 360 premium console now comes with a HDMI out.

Here’s Microsoft’s official statement:
“Yes, we are offering an HDMI port for Xbox 360 simply as another choice in Xbox 360 owners’ games and entertainment experience. Retailers are gradually introducing HDMI-enabled Xbox 360s into the channel to meet demand.”
Thats seem pretty cool, it seems like this is only in the US at the moment but this is bound to filter over to the UK soon.
I was considering getting an Xbox 360 Elite when they are available here, but if the premium console comes with HDMI out I may go for one of those instead, depending on the pricing compared to the Elite.

Microsoft Extends Xbox 360 Warranty To Three Years
Microsoft have announced that they will be extending the warranty on their popular Xbox 360 console to three years, amid a number of complaints from gamers of failing Xbox 360 systems.

Microsoft has acknowledged that there has been a more than acceptable failure rate on Xbox 360’s especially with the dreaded ‘red ring of death’ which has hit a number of the consoles.
Peter Moore, Corporate Vice President of the Entertainment and Devices Division of Microsoft said that they are sorry for anyone who has suffered the problems.
‘We haven’t done right by our customers, and for that I apologize,” he told GameSpot. “We listened, and we’re going to make it right.” In an in-depth interview with GameSpot, Moore outlined the new warranty, and emphasized it would be “global” in nature.
This is a smart move by Microsoft, even though it will cost them a reported $1 billion , had they not done this, these Xbox 360 problems could have deterred future buyers from purchasing the popular console.
