Open Source GPS Module developed for the iPhone

December 16, 2007 at 9:36 am

Some clever guys over at the part foundry have developed a GPS module for the Apple iPhone.

gps iphone module

The unit doesn’t look to pretty at the moment, but I am sure it will look good when it goes into production.

They have got it working with Google Maps at the moment, check out this video of it in action.

What is interesting is that the module will be open source when it goes on sale, which means that anyone can develop a GPS application to run with it.

You will need an unlocked iPhone at the moment to run it, this is a very interesting development it would be so handy to have GPS on the iPhone.

Archos 605 WiFi review - better than iPod Touch

November 1, 2007 at 4:34 pm

The guys over at ArsGeek have a great review on the Archos 605 WiFi.

archos 605 wifi review

If a digital music device has convinced you that taking your music with you is the way to go, the Archos will convince you that taking everything with you is the way to go. Just about the only things you can’t do with it are use it as a phone, check your email (unless of course you have web mail), and use it as a GPS system. The unit is sleek, easy to carry around, has a ton of storage available even in it’s second smallest unit, has a crystal clear touchscreen display, great video and audio quality, an easy to use and easy to navigate menu system and works well with Linux, OSX and Windows. You can play back everything on your TV with the appropriate accessory, access the web.

Head on over to ArsGeek to read the full review on this Amazing PMP
