StarChase - Cops Fire GPS Transmitters to chase cars
There are more than 100,000 high-speed pursuits in the U.S. every year, endangering everyone involved in the chase - the suspects, the police and the public. Rather than starting a car chase cops can now simply shoot the suspect cars with a GPS transmitter and they’ll know where they are at all times. This new technology by StarChase looks very promising.

Clarion have announced their latest GPS navigation systems, the MAP680 and MAP780. Using a full 4.3-inch wide-aspect touchscreen with anti-reflective coating, both units have an RDS-TMC tuner for traffic information and Bluetooth for handsfree cellphone use and A2DP music streaming.

New XDA Orbit 2 Smartphone with GPS
O2 has unveiled its new XDA Orbit 2 smartphone, which runs Windows Mobile 6 and comes with built-in GPS and the CoPilot Live 7 satnav software preloaded. It has a 2.8-inch touchscreen, 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and works with Microsoft’s Direct Push Email technology for BlackBerry-esque email-bothering on the move. More consumer-friendly features include a three-megapixel camera, FM radio and MP3-playing capabilities.
O2 promises up to 450 hours of standby time and up to seven hours of talktime. The Orbit 2 is available now in the UK, with the price varying according to tariff. If you’re a business user, you can opt for a CoPilot Live-free version.

Bicycle digital rear view mirror and heart rate computer
This neat concept which is still in the design stages atm contains a GPS system, heart rate monitor, distance/speed computer and a camera to view whats happening behind you as you ride.
The 3.5 inch viewing screen and has approx a 4 hour battery life and the device has a built in 32mb memory to store your data.
As the design is still being finalized there is no release date as yet but the manufactures Cerevellum hopes the device will be available at around $300

iPhone 1.1.3 Update Confirmed - Video
Check out this video of Apple’s latest update for the iPhone 1.1.3.
Apparently the new update will be coming in the next few weeks, and it will include a list of new features, like GPS-like triangulation positioning in Google Maps.
The video shows the new moving icons which looks pretty cool, and the new update as expected breaks all third party apps.

Open Source GPS Module developed for the iPhone
Some clever guys over at the part foundry have developed a GPS module for the Apple iPhone.
The unit doesn’t look to pretty at the moment, but I am sure it will look good when it goes into production.
They have got it working with Google Maps at the moment, check out this video of it in action.
What is interesting is that the module will be open source when it goes on sale, which means that anyone can develop a GPS application to run with it.
You will need an unlocked iPhone at the moment to run it, this is a very interesting development it would be so handy to have GPS on the iPhone.
