Sleeping driver alarm system
Toyota is currently working on a system to alert drivers when they fall asleep. The eye monitoring camera in the dashboard first stores the normal position of your eyelids and then monitors them for any signs of drowsiness or lack of attention. If it looks like you are falling off to sleep an alarm sounds.

The Lexus LS600H already has a face monitoring system in front of the driver that emits a loud alarm if it catches you spending too long looking away from the road and will apply the brakes if it thinks a crash is imminent. Via Gizmodo

Curved Monitor - Alienware
Wouldn’t three of these make a desktop and a half. Alienware’s new curved 2880 x 900 is “a doublewide curved DLP display with OLED illumination.” and mimics peripheral vision. It has an ultra fast 0.02-millisecond response time which should be faster enough for the most hardcore gamers

Hopefully this bad boy should be available in the 2nd quarter of 2008. I think I should start saving now.

Smart Closet tells you what clothes to wear
A bunch of researchers at the wearable computer laboratory at the University of South Australia have invented a Smart Closet.

The Smart closet has a built in computer, which monitors what you wear and your schedule, it stops you from wearing the same clothes you wore last time you met the person you’re meeting today.
It will also tell you when your clothes need dry cleaning, and what item goes with what. Sensors can be sewn into alll your clothes and it can tell which items are hanging in the closet.
Great idea for geeks, there is an easier solution that these guys overlooked, get yourself a girlfriend who will tell you exactly what to wear.

Energy Saving Just Got Stylish
Check out this Energy Saving Adapter Concept from designer Gilles Belley.

The Energy Saving Adapter uses a modular system of plus, which are linked together to form a power strip.

Each module responds to each individual device and monitors the power being used independently. The Energy Saving Adapter can tell which device is wasting energy in standby mode and then displays symbols to notify the owner of the wasted energy.

If someone doesn’t respond within three minutes, the Energy Saving Adapter automatically turns of that particular device.
With standby power usage taking up as much as 10% of today’s power usage, this could be an ideal solution.
