Chipmaker Via & its sponsor have created the 3.3-inch square “MTube” the “world’s smallest x86 PC,” and the first “IMP” (Internet Media Player) with TV recording capabilities. The 5.3-ounce MTube measures 3.3 x 3.3 x 0.8 inches (8.3 x 8.3 x 2cm), and sports a 2.8-inch VGA (640 x 480) touch panel display. There’s built-in WiFi and WiMax wireless communications, with CDMA cellular networking optional.

The MTube was shown decoding a simulated digital TV (DVB-T) broadcast. It was also shown streaming video to a wirelessly connected digital photo frame. Advanced digital TV features reportedly include time-shifted TV viewing, via 8GB of built-in flash, and picture-in-picture viewing. There’s also a full browser (mostlikely Firefox) supporting “Web 2.0″ content. Via’s demo of the device featured YouTube video content and Google Maps.

iPhone Unlocked To Use European Sim Card

August 6, 2007 at 12:44 pm

According to SlahGear some guys over at the hackint0sh forums have managed to unlock the iPhone to work with a European Sim card.

iphone uk

This is bound to invalidate the warranty as well as run the risk of your carrier canceling your service, or worse. Ok, that being said, the process requires a SIM reader/writer, a SilverCard smart card (with PIC16F877+24LC64 eeprom) and a V1Comp SIM.

Full instructions can be found on MY iTablet and Hackint0sh forums.Lets see how this pans out, it might be worth importing a US iPhone as using this hack, I guess we will have to wait and see.

Concept Wooden Laptop

July 26, 2007 at 10:45 am

Check out this concept wooden laptop from designer Simon Enever.

‘Since notebooks tend to go for sleek and shiny, here’s an alternative for all you traditionalists out there. The S-series notebook concept is made of wood. Yes that’s right, WOOD. Nevermind the weight and horrible heat insulation characteristics of the material, it’s supposed to look refined and sexy, at which it does.

The notebook sports one of those ultra-thin 4mm thick LCD screens, and at 17″ wide, there’s plenty of viewing room. The screen itself is backed by black acrylic, you know, to compliment that wood base. Catering to business users, the S-series is a tablet PC powered by Windows Vista.’
